This delightful picture taken in the ‘school garden’ shows a group of young children enjoying the summer sunshine.

The pantomime is Dick Whittington and it was performed at Christmas 1953.  Mr Hall, Headmaster, produced it and Mrs Young, the teacher of the top class, directed it.
Elaine Pugh played the part of Dick and the leading lady was played by Mary Rose Brophy.
Other parts were played by Barbara Meek, Ann Stone, Rosemary Leach, Hilary Tuxford, Mary Swan, Barabara West, David Broadbent, Wesley Webb, Maureen Adamson, Alan Ruston, Billy Young, Kevin Hepworth, Ian Clark, Sandra Orgill, Pat Baker and Moira Swindon.

This is one of a number of photographs held in the school archives which shows the remarkably successful school choir of the 1950’s. Under the baton of the their music teacher, Mr. Spinks, the choir, accompanied on the piano by Mr Greaves, won the Eskdale Music Tournament six times.
