Miss Mackin

Class Teacher

My name is Miss Mackin and I have been teaching at Gladstone Road for almost 10 years! I currently teach in Reception Green which is part of EYFS but my journey first started long ago in KS2. I see each year as a new adventure and it is a pleasure to teach in a school that is home to so many inspirational, talented and kind children.
Everyone knows that I just love all things creative! You will often find me reading stories, creating puppet shows, singing songs, building new worlds, making playdough models, writing letters and I also secretly like to paint dinosaurs, superheroes and mermaids! What I love even more though is watching children reach for the stars and to see them shine ☆
Being part of the English Team for several years has lead me to develop a strong passion towards ‘Reading’ and ‘Phonics’. It makes me so happy to help children learn new sounds and letters so that they can read and write and I am incredibly proud of all our children in developing their own love of reading. I am quite a bookworm so together we read lots of wonderful stories, including my personal favourites ‘The Gruffalo’, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and ‘Supertato’. I believe ‘reading is dreaming with
your eyes open’ and the children and I often travel to different worlds and meet lots of new characters along the way.
I find outdoor learning so endearing and this is certainly one of my much-loved parts of our EYFS provision. My role comes with the privilege of being able to observe children engage in exciting learning opportunities, such as exploring the mud for worms or building fairgrounds out of crates… it is all very exciting!
In my spare time, I enjoy exploring woodlands and building magical dinosaur forts with my family. We speak two languages in our home so I am trying hard to improve my Spanish. However, I do think I need a little more practise!
Nothing makes me smile more than seeing children enjoying their learning and that is something I promise to help make come true. ☆
