1922 Football Team

One of the reason why this trophy winning team was so successful is that the goalkeeper, Philip Porter, was one of the best around. In 1924, he was selected to play for Yorkshire Schoolboys against London. Much is known about Philip’s career as a collection of memorabilia is held in the school archives. We have no information of the rest of the team or on the six adults pictured. Could they have been the coaching squad – another reason perhaps, for the success of the boys!?

The late Mr A.I. Webb second left after the globe.
In the 1990’s Mr Webb presented the Webb Nelson Cross Country Trophy which is still a keenly contested annual race event.
